Fitting K-Series Metro Seats Into A Mini

1. For the first seat that you do, it will be easier to work with just the runners with the seat out the way. If you turn the seat upsidedown, there are 4 rivets on each side. Drill these out or grind the heads off - you can replace these with M5/6 nuts & bolts when you need the seat back in.

2. Next job is to cut some 1" box section steel (I used table legs) that is wide enough for the runners to bolt to. Make one for the back...

3. ..and another for the front.

4. Then take the standard Mini front seat brackets and bend the top sections with the three holes in so that they are horizontal.

5. Bolt the front 1" box section under the runners, then bolt it down to the modified Mini mounts.

At this point, you will need to use the runners with the seat still attached to work out the posistion. Make sure that the seats are far enough towards the handbrake so that the 'tilt forward' lever on the side of each seat doesn't catch the B-post. Also allow room for handbrake access, any door pockets you may have (these may need to go) and also be ready to modify any centre console you may have. When the seats were fully forward on mine, there was no room for the console without cutting bits out of it.

6. Now for the rear. You will need to find some way of lifting the rear of the runners so that they are level (or close) with the front. I used wood for this (Pictured in blue) from a thick chopped up coffee table! I found that I prefered the rear of the seats to be a bit lower so that I sit 'in' them rather than perched 'on' them.

Finally, fix the runners to the 1" box section and then bolt that through the wood and through the floor. Use some fairly hefty bolts (I used coach bolts) and reinforce the floor with some speader plates under the heads. As you are fixing this down, bear the advert in mind that shows a rear passenger has the weight of an Elephant in an accident. It'll help make sure you do a proper job. You may need to offset the wood to clear the centre tunnel.

That's it! Enjoy modern, comfortable and supportive seats in your Mini!
Many other modern Rovers use the same runners as the K-series Metro's do, so this arrangement is no just restricted to Metro seats.
